Shield is a Weapon

In the solo Shield is a Weapon, the boundary between inside and outside, between the self and the other, is explored through movement, vocal soundscapes, and text. The mouth becomes a shield and a gate, which, once opened, speaks in many tongues. Building on the ambiguity of the shield, the work examines the proximity of vulnerability and aggression, concealment and confrontation. Shifting between the perspectives of those behind and in front of the shield, the work reflects themes of polarization, (self-)censorship and the politics of defence.
