BOUNDARIES

When sight begins to fade, what do we feel? Which other senses begin to unfold?
“Boundaries” is an intimate contemporary dance performance in which the audience enters complete darkness. Here, the separation between stage and auditorium disappears, as does any sense of safe distance. What remains is sound, movement, breath, proximity, and your own imagination.
The first contemporary dance performance in Lithuania created for visually impaired adults, while also allowing sighted audiences to experience the world without vision. The performance invites you not to watch dance, but to experience it through the body.
In darkness, hearing, touch, and spatial awareness become heightened. You hear how the body moves. You feel how distance shifts. Sometimes movement comes very close. Sometimes it emerges just behind you.
Suddenly, you realise – we are no longer navigating with our eyes.
The performance explores the human relationship with space and with others: how we perceive our surroundings, how we trust, how we respond to the unknown. Where does personal space end and another’s presence begin? Do boundaries protect us, or do they limit us?
The performance incorporates motion sensors: every tilt of the dancers’ bodies, every gesture, every intensity of movement generates sound in real time. In this way, a unique live sonic environment is created – as if it were an audible “image” of a moving body. For visually impaired audiences, movement becomes something that can be heard, while sighted audiences discover an entirely new mode of perception. Here, dance is no longer seen – it is heard, felt, and experienced.
