DESCRIPTION
“Transforman” is an extended urban dance performance about the relationship with oneself and another person. These questions, especially highlighted during the period of quarantine and forced self-isolation, raise a universal existential problem – the relationship between normative masculinity and emotional openness. In the face of the pandemic, the fragility of everyday life, insecurity about the future and their consequences for a person’s emotional and physical state have been revealed.
The monoperformance “Transforman” depicts a man’s inner journey from stereotyped masculinity to self-understanding and acceptance.
What emotional and psychological barriers prevent modern men from opening up? What does it mean to be vulnerable and compassionate towards themselves?
“A sensitive open heart may seem like a weakness to “normal” people who have simplified themselves, exchanged their authenticity for acceptability, in Lithuania – especially men. Thoughts constantly swirl in my head – what is normal after all? What if I am just an empty shell, full of nothing? “What is existence worth if I am not in it?” asks the creator of the performance, Marius Eidrigevičius.
